Zoom is a web conferencing tool available through the college. By default, everyone at the college has access to a Basic account. You and your students can register and manage your accounts at http://etown.zoom.us/

Getting started with Zoom

You must create an Etown Zoom account at http://etown.zoom.us  and log in before Zoom can work from within Canvas.

The Zoom Help Center   provides some basic tutorials for using Zoom.

Some “Pro” Tips for Use of Zoom

Now that you’ve survived your first session (or two or three), you may be ready to “level up” in Zoom.  Check out the following to see what might be useful in your environment.

Zoom Tips and Tricks for Hosts – PDF

Log in to your Zoom account before hosting or joining a meeting. If you are already logged in when joining a meeting, you will save set up time. Warning: If you are the host and click the link you sent to guests, you will be added as a participant and won’t be the host of the meeting!

Mute/Unmute using your space bar.  Did you know that when you are muted in Zoom you can quickly unmute yourself simply by holding down the space bar?  As long as the space bar is depressed, you will remain unmuted.  To return to mute, you need only release the space bar.

Making Use of the Break-Out Rooms in Zoom.  Breakout rooms are a valuable feature within Zoom.  Youc an randomly assign participants to breakout rooms, assign participants to specific rooms, or allow participants to choose a breakout room.

Meeting Controls.  Zoom has a fairly sophisticated set of meeting controls.
