Microsoft Stream

In addition to Zoom and VidGrid, we also have access to Microsoft Stream, a video recording, storage, and streaming tool. Think of it as a mashup of VidGrid, Screencast-o-matic, and Youtube.  There are some advantages to using Stream:

  • storage — we have plenty of storage for videos and if you already use Office 365 tools (Onedrive, Sharepoint) for file storage you might find it handy to have your videos in the same place.
  • very easy captioning and transcription — the default settings create captions for any uploaded or recorded video and editing those captions is not overly difficult

However, it does differ from some of our other tools:

  • the screen recording feature requires that you launch the recorder from a Chrome browser (you can then record any browser you wish, you just need to start in Chrome)
  • screen recordings are limited to fifteen minutes each
  • the interface emphasizes finding and sharing videos, much like Youtube, which may feel a little busy and corporate compared to VidGrid

To access Stream, log onto Office 365 using your Elizabethtown login. If the Stream icon is not visible in the applications available along the left, look for the all applications button.
