Tech Tip: Custom Letterhead Templates

Do you want your own custom letterhead to make your documents smooth and professional, but also unique to you? With Microsoft Word, you can create your own custom letterhead template in just a few steps.

In a new Word document, open the header. Type your letterhead text. If you’d like to add a logo, Etown logos can be found here. Under the design tab, click Next to move to the next page’s header and footer. Add a page number in the position of your choice. Complete any other finishing touches that you want to do with your new letterhead.

Now, begin the process of saving your document as normal. Before confirming its location, select the Save as type dropdown bar and choose Word Template (*.dotx).

Next, open Word again. Under the Recent list, you will see your template. Click the tack icon to pin it to the opening screen so that it will be easy to find in the future. Now, left click on the file and choose Open a copy. Make sure to always keep the pinned template clean, for ease of future use.
