Daily Blog #10: Digitization of the Puffenberger Religious Artifacts Collection

After a long weekend, we were able to keep the same productive pace as last week. After our team meeting this morning, we decided that my goal for the week was to catalog 25 artifacts. With only four work days this week, it seemed a little daunting at first. However, I worked very hard today and was able to catalog five artifacts. These artifacts included, the Wooden Statue of Kane, Plate with Quranic Scripture/Calligraphy, Qur’an Stand or Rehal, Pakistani Islamic Prayer Hat or Topi, and the Islamic Prayer Beads or Subha or Misbaha.

After I took many photos of each artifact I decided to try and see if I could use the rotational table in combination with the shutter mode on the camera in order to capture photos of all sides of the artifact. While the object was spinning on the rotational table, I used the shutter remote to take photos every 5 seconds. After I took the photos, I uploaded and edited them on the computer. In order to create the 360 video, I had to stitch each shutter photo together to create a constant animation. After I figured out how to do this, the video was so much more smoother and showed every angle of each of the artifacts. Learning how to use the rotational table with the shutter remote in order to create something 3D was a goal that Carol had for this project specifically and being able to figure it out today made me very proud!
