Department at Elizabethtown College!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/ot\/files\/2015\/01\/2015-284x177.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-674\" src=\"http:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/ot\/files\/2015\/01\/2015-284x177.jpg\" alt=\"2015 \" width=\"395\" height=\"252\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Do you make New Year\u2019s resolutions?\u00a0 How many do you make?\u00a0 Do you write them down somewhere and then revisit them to see if you achieve them?<\/p>\n<p>Making a new year\u2019s resolution is similar to setting goals for our patients\/clients, right?\u00a0 We set a \u201cbig picture\u201d or long-term goal, and then we make several smaller steps or short-term goals to help reach the overarching goal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><span style=\"color: #993366\">What are your New Year&#8217;s Resolutions? \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here are some ideas to help you achieve better health and well-being in the New Year:<a href=\"http:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/ot\/files\/2015\/01\/New-years-resolution-275x183.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-673 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/ot\/files\/2015\/01\/New-years-resolution-275x183-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"notebook paper with a list of resolutions\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Eat more fruits and vegetables &#8211; even if you don\u2019t achieve the recommended 5 servings\/day, at least aim for this 1-2 times per week.<\/li>\n<li>Get more physical exercise or activity \u2013 use the steps, go for a walk, take a swim, enroll in a Zumba class or other exercise class<\/li>\n<li>Disconnect from your technology periodically so that you can fully enjoy the people and the world around you<\/li>\n<li>Get outside for some sunshine and to interact with nature<\/li>\n<li>Engage in a hobby or leisure activity that you enjoy at least once a week<\/li>\n<li>Exercise your mind \u2013 read a good book, practice meditation or relaxation<\/li>\n<li>Volunteer your time and your talents<\/li>\n<li>Allow yourself enough time for sufficient sleep and rest<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For your professional, clinical practice, how about these?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Learn something new about your area of practice<\/li>\n<li>Supervise a fieldwork student<\/li>\n<li>Volunteer for a committee or special project<\/li>\n<li>Learn to use your electronic medical record<\/li>\n<li>If you are not already a member, join your professional association \u2013 e.g. POTA, AOTA, or others related to your work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy New Year from the O.T.
