{"id":1498,"date":"2016-09-27T14:30:04","date_gmt":"2016-09-27T18:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/ot\/?p=1498"},"modified":"2016-09-22T22:24:37","modified_gmt":"2016-09-23T02:24:37","slug":"a-place-for-everyone-to-play-advocacy-in-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/ot\/2016\/09\/27\/a-place-for-everyone-to-play-advocacy-in-action\/","title":{"rendered":"A Place for Everyone to Play &#8211; Advocacy in Action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Imagine that your community is preparing to install new playground equipment at a public park. \u00a0What comes to mind? \u00a0Swings, see-saws, monkey bars? \u00a0What if you had the opportunity to help design that playground to be accessible and inclusive? \u00a0That&#8217;s exactly what one of our recent graduates is doing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/ot\/?attachment_id=1501\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1501\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1501 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/ot\/files\/2016\/09\/marla-park-2-1024x576-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"marla park 2 (1024x576)\" width=\"688\" height=\"387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/ot\/files\/2016\/09\/marla-park-2-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/ot\/files\/2016\/09\/marla-park-2-1024x576-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/ot\/files\/2016\/09\/marla-park-2-1024x576-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 688px) 100vw, 688px\" \/><\/a><strong>Marla Peiffer<\/strong>, MS, OT (&#8217;16) shared that she recently had the opportunity to meet with the designer\/consultant about a new playground in her home community. \u00a0Although the original main playground structure was considered accessible according to standards, Marla worked with the designer to include some additional features such as interactive play panels with games and musical instruments that will encourage interaction between all children.
