It is the PA licensure board\u2019s opinion that continued competence requires engagement in the profession. In\u00a0order to ensure engagement, there were a few areas where the Board did not incorporate the PDUs from NBCOT:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>(a) activities wherein documentation supporting completion of the activity was not independently verifiable (NBCOT PDU 9 and 12)<\/li>\n<li>(b) pre-preparation activities (NBCOT PDUs 1 and 2)<\/li>\n<li>(c) activities stemming from an employment role (NBCOT PDUs 17 and 28), and<\/li>\n<li>(d) collection of data credit (NBCOT PDU 27).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For Pennsylvania, acceptable continued competency activities are broken into 7 categories of activities.\u00a0 With several exceptions and breakdown differences, these categories are similar to the NBCOT\u2019s 28 professional development units (PDUs). \u00a0Watch this blog for a review of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pacode.com\/secure\/data\/049\/chapter42\/s42.55.html\" target=\"_blank\">acceptable activities<\/a>, or you can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pacode.com\/secure\/data\/049\/chapter42\/s42.55.html\" target=\"_blank\">check them out<\/a> for yourself.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NBCOT requires continuing education (counted as professional development units or PDUs) rather than continued competence.
