{"id":240,"date":"2019-08-15T09:00:36","date_gmt":"2019-08-15T13:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/english\/?p=240"},"modified":"2019-07-30T21:05:03","modified_gmt":"2019-07-31T01:05:03","slug":"careers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/english\/2019\/08\/15\/careers\/","title":{"rendered":"Career Opportunities for the English Major"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Matt Skillen, Associate Professor of English and English Department Chair, loves to talk about the widespread career opportunities English majors have.\u00a0 \u201cIf a workplace is struggling with a task of collaboration, critical thinking, or communication, the English major in the room will be the expert.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>English majors can excel in many fields, resulting in employment within fields such as editing, marketing, web design, legal services, medical writing, and tech<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-243 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/english\/files\/2019\/08\/Recent-Grads-300x300.png\" alt=\"Recent Graduates\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/english\/files\/2019\/08\/Recent-Grads-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/english\/files\/2019\/08\/Recent-Grads-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/english\/files\/2019\/08\/Recent-Grads-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/english\/files\/2019\/08\/Recent-Grads-110x110.png 110w, https:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/english\/files\/2019\/08\/Recent-Grads.png 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>nical writing.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the need of strong writers in any workplace, English majors often intern in different environments before graduating.\u00a0 Some travel the short distance to Harrisburg or Lancaster for internships, and others intern in on campus marketing and writing positions.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, English majors can seek out extracurricular campus activities that contribute to their professional development.
