Connecting with Alumni enable students to travel down a prospective road to figure out the possibilities that lie ahead. Alumni come prepared to discuss professional advice and career experiences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What to Expect <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Louis Martin, English professor and the event coordinator, describes the occasions social atmosphere as \u201crelaxed and formal.\u201d He explains how easy interactions initiate in the events setting. \u201cCurrent students find it easy to talk with former students, due to common interest,\u201d Martin said.<\/p>\n<p>Corrine McCarthy, Senior English professional writing major, reminisced her experience at the event as a \u201ccasual atmosphere.\u201d \u201cI did dress up for it and it is best to present yourself professionally,\u201d McCarthy said. Although she wore formal attire she also stressed how the event is a very \u201claid-back environment and eating dinner with the alumni makes it less stressful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey can learn about opportunities they did not know existed, and sometimes they can network <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-209 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/english\/files\/2019\/03\/banquet2-300x300.png\" alt=\"people talking at banquet\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/english\/files\/2019\/03\/banquet2-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/english\/files\/2019\/03\/banquet2-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/english\/files\/2019\/03\/banquet2-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/english\/files\/2019\/03\/banquet2-110x110.png 110w, https:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/english\/files\/2019\/03\/banquet2.png 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>to learn about specific jobs and openings.\u00a0 Knowing someone at a place of employment can open doors.\u00a0 And they can get contact information to ask questions later if they come up,\u201d Martin said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The Alumni Networking Luncheon creates a long-lasting impact on a student\u2019s time at Elizabethtown College as well as after graduation. Students that attend understand the advantages they gain by participating in the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve started realizing that knowing the right people makes\u00a0excellent padding for my resume and interviews. Connecting through the College gives alumni and current students common ground to connect, making networking much more approachable,\u201d Shuck said.<\/p>\n<p>Current English students will be invited to the event each spring.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Author bio:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Justine Itterly is a junior, studying public relations and graphic design. She is a student athlete who participates in Cross Country as well as Track and Field. Her involvement on campus includes being a member of Office of Student Activities and Jay Firm, the Colleges student run, public relations firm.
