Jerica Shuck, a senior English professional writing major, shared how “incredibly important” making contacts are to her. “Networking is both valuable for finding your first job and continuing to find opportunities in the future,” said Shuck.

Attending the Alumni Networking Luncheon services students with any questions pertaining to what to do after college as well as what to get involved with while still studying at E-town. Connecting with Alumni enable students to travel down a prospective road to figure out the possibilities that lie ahead. Alumni come prepared to discuss professional advice and career experiences.

What to Expect

Louis Martin, English professor and the event coordinator, describes the occasions social atmosphere as “relaxed and formal.” He explains how easy interactions initiate in the events setting. “Current students find it easy to talk with former students, due to common interest,” Martin said.

Corrine McCarthy, Senior English professional writing major, reminisced her experience at the event as a “casual atmosphere.” “I did dress up for it and it is best to present yourself professionally,” McCarthy said. Although she wore formal attire she also stressed how the event is a very “laid-back environment and eating dinner with the alumni makes it less stressful.”

“They can learn about opportunities they did not know existed, and sometimes they can network people talking at banquetto learn about specific jobs and openings.  Knowing someone at a place of employment can open doors.  And they can get contact information to ask questions later if they come up,” Martin said.

The Alumni Networking Luncheon creates a long-lasting impact on a student’s time at Elizabethtown College as well as after graduation. Students that attend understand the advantages they gain by participating in the event.

“I’ve started realizing that knowing the right people makes excellent padding for my resume and interviews. Connecting through the College gives alumni and current students common ground to connect, making networking much more approachable,” Shuck said.

Current English students will be invited to the event each spring.
