One of the coolest photos, from Day 2: A Shadow.

The Photo Fun in February Instagram photo challenge is over. For the past 28 days we’ve enjoyed more than 1200 scenes captured by almost 100 people. We’ve witnessed lots of creativity and, at times, the sentimental. We saw the personality of Blue Jays come alive. And many of these pictures helped tell the Elizabethtown College story. We hope those who participated or viewed the photos had a lot of fun too.

The challenge welcomed a variety of participants. From what we can tell, the majority were Elizabethtown College students, rounded out by alumni, prospective students, E-town employees and their families, and a few folks with no affiliation to the College that happened to find our challenge through hashtags.

We’ve been asked if there would be another challenge soon. We don’t want the novelty of this type of activity to wear off, so we’ll likely have another official E-town photo challenge in the fall. In the meantime, you can continue to share certain photos with us and the community by using #etowncollege!

Oh yes. We have 10 winners to announce. As of this writing, they’ve already been notified via Instagram and Twitter, but to recap mmols, mineswiper, shannonk2012, theklapattack and kaylin_russell won free 5×7 Kodak Kiosk prints from The College Store; thisisarianna won a travel tumbler and pongycone won a Blue Jays. Always. pint glass, both from the Office of Alumni Relations; and from Dining Services, marlajeanp won $10 in JayBucks, smorgey won a free carrot cake from the Blue Bean, and petea919 won a free sandwich and drink from The Bird Feeder. Thanks to Susan Smith, Lynda Hudzick and Mark Clapper.

Now, on to the data! Below you’ll find some stats, and then a few of our favorite photos. To see a huge selection of photos from the challenge, visit the Storify feed. This story contains photos whose owners allow photos to be made public. (Statigram offers an alternative view here.)

A Few Favorites

There were more than 1000 pictures submitted. Here are a few that made us smile or laugh.

Day 17 – Handwriting – an alumnus showed her Blue Jay pride not just with her note, but also with her notepad and a special paperweight!

Day 15 – What I Love About E-town. A breathtaking collage of campus shots through the seasons.

Day 4 – Walking Somewhere. A fun shot of a student walking to class in the rain. We have to ask though — why not RUN instead?

Day 26 – Nature. This photo has an awesome story. The submitter wrote: “This piece of nature is an acorn from the front yard of Schlosser dorm. I picked it up in August of 2005 while moving my daughter in – 29 years after I moved in to the same dorm! It’s been with me ever since then!”

Day 15 – What I Love About E-town. This one of a student leader, Ginette, gave us the warm and fuzzies. She loves that she’s a peer mentor, or Kinesis, for the Momentum program.

Day 15: What I Love About Elizabethtown College. This one made us smile wide! The submitter played off her previous photo from Day 7 to which we had a witty response. On Day 15 she expressed she loved the College's sense of humor!

Day 6: Morning Routine. We liked this one because, well, she’s starting the day with us!

Day 20: A Number. This was a super creative submission and two different users had the same idea. The Eric Byrd Trio visited campus for Black History Month and these two users said, we paraphrase, a trio is three, so three is our number. Clever!

Day 5: Winter Accessory. We don’t need to explain why we like this one so much. It’s pretty self-explanatory!

Day 6: A Morning Routine. Yep. We’ve all been there!

Day 27: An ‘E’. A mathematical response to the day’s challenge.

Day 11: Light. Someone had a great idea for today's post!

Day 7: Thirsty Thursday. Someone has collected A LOT of E-town cups over 29 years.

Day 4: Walking Somewhere. We loved the step-by-step thought process shown in this one!

  • I have to say that even though I was also managing the contest, I thoroughly enjoyed participating in it as myself too! This was really a lot of fun, and my husband even got involved (he did all 28 days!) and really loved checking out the photos each day from everyone. This success of this challenge really makes me proud to work at E-town! I

  • I was quite impressed with all the participants and their creative eye. Every day I would look forward to seeing what others came up with for that days challenge, which in effect pushed ME to think creatively. I also loved the fact that the school thinks so forward with things like this. It’s refreshing to see the college embrace social media!!
