Elizabethtown College Instructional Designer and Online Learning Specialist Crystal Donlan presented at the Fall 2021 Virtual Conference of the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

Donlan’s talk, “Mindful Scaffolding: Safeguarding the Learning Experience across Delivery Modalities through Presence and Practice,” offered ten evidence-based practices that teachers can use to create safe, meaningful learning spaces in any delivery modality.

“Mindful Scaffolding,” Donlan’s original concept, involves utilizing a reflective and integrative framework for optimizing learning experiences.

“When educators implement mindful scaffolding, we provide students the instructional support necessary for optimal facilitation of their performance development along with the inherent grace born of purposeful awareness,” said Donlan. “Mindful scaffolding occurs at the intersection of pedagogy and perspective, and by its example, we merge poise with functionality to deploy robust, agile learning experiences.”
