Elizabethtown College’s Richard Fellinger is garnering national honors for his latest fiction novel, “Summer of ’85” which was published in June 2021.
Fellinger, who is a Fellow in the Etown Writing Wing, recently saw his novel named as a finalist in the General Fiction category for the American Fiction Awards. Highly regarded in publishing circles, the award recognizes books from across the industry, ranging from mainstream publishers to self-publishers.
A part coming-of-age story, part mid-life crisis story that takes place in the summer of 1985 at the Jersey Shore, “Summer of ‘85” was also received Honorable Mention in the General Fiction competition at the Hollywood Book Festival.
“It’s always nice to receive a recognition like this, especially in today’s book-selling climate, which is a tough one,” said Fellinger. “It’s nice to know that others appreciate your work. That means so much when you invest so much of yourself in it.”

Fellinger is an award-winning author and former journalist. He’s the author of the novel, “Made to Break Your Heart” and the story collection, “They Hover Over Us,” winner of the Serena McDonald Kennedy Award. He’s also a Pushcart Prize nominee and winner of the 2008 Flash Fiction Contest at Red Cedar Review.
