Elizabethtown College Assistant Professor of Education Kathryn Caprino recently co-authored the book, “Inquiry-Based Literature Instruction in the 6–12 Classroom A Hands-on Guide for Deeper Learning.”

“We wanted a book that would help secondary English teachers encourage their students to ask authentic, meaningful questions in the English classroom but, more importantly, in the real world,” said Caprino.

This practical and engaging book was written to help instructors of middle and high school ELA and English classrooms teach literature with an inquiry-based approach. Inquiry-based literature instruction is an effective method to facilitate student engagement, motivation, and understanding. Caprino co-authored the publication with Sean Ruday, Associate Professor of English Education at Longwood University. The two provided a scaffolded approach that allows teachers to try out the type of inquiry-based instruction that works for their students.
