Rebecca Li ’22 and Cierra Stevens ’20 presented research at the 70th annual meeting of the Pennsylvania Sociological Society (PSS) in November.

Li, a junior Sociology/Anthropology major, was recognized as the winner of the Pennsylvania Sociological Society Undergraduate Student Paper Competition during the virtual meeting. Her paper, “Loving is All You Need: The Effects of Race, Age, and Education on Views of Interracial Marriage,” explored the effects of race, age, and education on views of interracial marriage.

Stevens’ research examined the effects of age, sex, and socioeconomic status (SES) on the self-reported experiences of everyday discrimination in her paper: “Beyond Black and White: The Effects of Age, Sex, and Socioeconomic Status on Experiences of Everyday Discrimination.”

Both papers used data from the 2018 wave of the General Social Survey and were written as part of the sociology and criminal justice year-long research course sequence. The faculty sponsor for both papers was Dr. Michele Lee Kozimor ’93, who won the award in 1992 and was ending her term as the Past-President of the Pennsylvania Sociological Society. Dr. Barbara Prince ’12, also a past undergraduate and graduate paper winner at PSS, assumed the role of President of PSS for 2021.
