Professor of Political Science E. Fletcher McClellan recently collaborated with Adjunct Professor of Political Science Kyle Kopko and alumna Kayla Gruber ’18 to publish an article about the effects of High Impact Practices in undergraduate political science curriculum. Gruber earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, studying under both Fletcher and Kopko, and she currently serves as Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs at the Pennsylvania Department of State.
This is one of the many times McClellan has collaborated with his former students. In recent years, he has completed numerous professional conferences and op-ed collaborations with alums. Whenever he or his colleagues come up with an idea for a research project, they immediately think of ways to involve both current students and alums.
“Collaboration with students, to the extent possible, is one of the Standard Professional Expectations for political science faculty,” says McClellan. “We are fortunate to work at a small college, where it’s possible to form mentoring relationships. It’s even more fortunate to be near great cities and the state capitol, which provide research and career opportunities for political science students.”
