Elizabethtown College Associate Professor of Communications Dr. Colin Helb was recently elected to the Board of Trustees of the Popular Culture Association (PCA) for a three-year term. The PCA is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the study of popular culture throughout the world through the establishment of promotional conferences, publications, and discussions.
Helb attended and presented at several of the PCA’s national and regional conferences after he was introduced to the organization through a retired professor of his doctorate program at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). He got to know Ray B. Browne, founder of the PCA, through BGSU’s Popular Culture and American Culture Studies Program and the two would spend time working on projects for the organization. Helb went on to serve as the President of the Mid-Atlantic Popular and American Culture Association (MAPACA), a regional affiliate of PCA, and is currently the Area Co-Chair of the Internet Culture Area.
“The Popular Culture Association stands as one of the most diverse, interdisciplinary, and engaged academic organizations there is, said Helb. “I am excited to make this next move in my service to the organization and in support of the serious and critical study of popular culture.”
As a member of the Board of Trustees, Helb is focusing his efforts toward public outreach and programming as well as bylaws and organizational management. His term began in on June 1, 2020.
Colin Helb serves as Associate Professor of Communications at Elizabethtown College. He also serves as Director of the Film Studies Program, and General Manager/Faculty Advisor for WWEC 88.3 FM, the College’s student-operated radio station.
