Each year, Elizabethtown College honors its outstanding students from various areas across campus. Among the honors are the Distinguished Student Awards including the Points of Distinction Award, Senate Scholarship Awards, Bowers Center Student Staff Awards, Community Living Awards, Center for Civic and Community Engagement Awards, and Chaplain’s Office Awards. Select staff and faculty also receive awards within some of these categories.
Distinguished Student Awards are given to students who have shown the effective integration of the four signature learning attributes at Elizabethtown; relationship-centered learning, international and cross-cultural perspectives, real-world learning and purposeful life work. Out of these winners, the Point of Distinction Scholar Award is given to the student believed to have shown this integration to the highest degree. This year’s award was bestowed upon senior Political Science and Spanish double-major, Sara Allocco.
Senate Scholarship Awards are given to students based on various areas of academics areas. The awards are reviewed and selected by the Elizabethtown College Student Senate. Two faculty members are also selected for excellence in serving and educating students.
Bowers Center Student Staff awards honor students who go above and beyond in their work at Etown’s Bowers Center for Sports, Fitness, and Well-Being. The awards are broken out by department with this year’s Overall SAWR Team Member of the Year going to Master of Occupational Therapy student, Gina Feeney.
Community Living Awards are given to honor the students who make an impact in their residential community and with their peers. These awards are reviewed by the Community Living staff. An award for best Student-Directed Learning Community of the Year is also given to a group who have done meaningful work in the community. This year’s SDLC winner was Unleash Your pOTential, and Occupational Therapy SDLC who worked with the Water Street Mission in Lancaster.
Etown’s Center for Community and Civic Engagement gives awards to a student and a student organization who demonstrate a commitment to benefiting the lives of others and a commitment to the College’s Motto of ‘Educate for Service.’ These awards are selected by the College’s CCCE staff.
Finally, the Chaplains Office Awards are given to students, faculty, and staff who show an outstanding commitment to their faith and to the service of others through it. These awards are reviewed and selected by the Etown’s Chaplain Office staff.
