Elizabethtown College’s student-run dance club, Emotion, will host its annual spring showcase in the Leffler Chapel and Performance Center. The performances will take place on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2 from 8-11 p.m. and a portion of all proceeds go to charities selected by the club.
The showcase includes a variety of dance styles, choreographed and performed by students of all levels. Performances often feature ballet, lyrical, jazz and tap, among more exotic styles such as Latin and Irish dancing. The event is a culmination of the efforts of nearly 150 students that make up the Emotion club, who hold fall and spring performances annually.
Dylan Warner, one of the club’s senior choreographers, will be performing in his sixth and final showcase this spring.
“There’s something special about standing on stage at the end of the show, surrounded by over 100 fellow dancers, knowing that you created a collaborative work of art,” Warner said. “It’s a feeling only Emotion can create.”
About 50 percent of the show’s revenue from each night is donated to different charities voted on by the members of the club. Previously, the club has supported organizations like St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and The American Brain Tumor Association, along with smaller organizations like Brittany’s Hope. The event averages about $300 in donations per charity but has donated up to $600 in the past.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased the week leading up to the show or at the will-call box.
