On Feb. 19th, Elizabethtown College’s Center for Global Understanding and Peacemaking will hold a presentation about the Teachers for West Africa Program (TWAP) in the Young Center’s Bucher Meeting House from 7 to 8 p.m. The presentation will be led by Quimby Mamula and Milosh Mamula, two former teachers who taught for a year in Nigeria through TWAP, as they share their experience during their time as teachers in Nigeria.
From 1962 to 1972, Elizabethtown College and Hershey Corporation sent more than 250 teachers to West Africa as part of the TWAP program where they taught various subjects such as English, French, home economics, mathematics, and sciences to students in secondary schools.
In collaboration with the presentation, Elizabethtown College’s High Library also will hold a month-long exhibit in its Innovation Design Expression Art (IDEA) Lab. The exhibit will elaborate on TWAP and include both podcasts and digital archives for view which were created by Elizabethtown students in the Archival Resources and Digital Humanities course in order to preserve the decade as we move into a more technological world.
Both events are free and open to the public.
