Associate Professor Michele Kozimor awarded 2019 Hans O. Mauksch Award for Distinguished Contributions to Undergraduate Sociology
Elizabethtown College Associate Professor of Sociology Michele Kozimor recently was awarded the 2019 Hans O. Mauksch Award for Distinguished Contributions to Undergraduate Sociology by the American Sociological Association.
“I am thrilled to have received the Hans O. Mauksch Award as I have been inspired and mentored by many of the previous award recipients,” Kozimor said. “More importantly, I believe receiving this award speaks to the quality of the Sociology/Anthropology major at Elizabethtown College and is a testament to the incredibly talented and hard-working undergraduate students I have had the opportunity to work with.”
Kozimor was awarded on Aug. 11 during an awards ceremony in New York City at the American Sociological Association’s annual meeting. Her portfolio was reviewed by ASA who chose Kozimor for her, “dedication to developing and promoting strong undergraduate sociology, which is invaluable for the health of our discipline.”
The Hans O. Mauksch Award was established in 1979 as the Contributions to Teaching Award and was named for Hans O. Mauksch in 1982. Kozimor is thankful for the added visibility the award provides her former, current, and prospective students.
“This networking opens doors for our students in the major such as generating more interest in graduate school applications and other opportunities like the ASA Honors Program,” Kozimor said.
Kozimor will provide the Mauksch Award Address at next year’s American Sociological Association annual meeting in San Francisco, and the address will be published in the quarterly journal, Teaching Sociology. in Jan. 2021. Teaching Sociology is one of nine journals of the American Sociological Association and the only one focused on pedagogy.
