College hosts exhibit and speaker from LGBT Center of central Pennsylvania

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion hosts an informational exhibit “The Long Road to LGBTQ+ Equality in Pennsylvania” created by the LGBT Center about the struggles and achievements of activists within Pennsylvania. The exhibit is displayed in the Winters Alcove Display room in the High Library and is available to view Thursday, Oct. 24 to Tuesday, Oct. 29 during normal library hours.

The exhibit tells the story of Pennsylvania’s fight for LGBTQ+ rights. According to the LGBT Center, the exhibit highlights “the efforts that activists have undertaken in Pennsylvania to achieve full equality for LGBTQ+ people…through historical narrative, photographs and video of oral history first person accounts of activists.” Throughout the past 50 years, activists struggled to gain shelter within communities from physical harassment, assault, arson and bombings. The traveling exhibit sheds light on activists’ unsuccessful attempts to obtain statewide legislative protections from discrimination.

Barry Loveland, Chairman of the LGBT Center History project, discusses topics relating to the exhibit on Monday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. in the library.

Admission is free and open to the public.
