Elizabethtown College’s motto is “Educate for Service,” and what better way to fulfill this statement than with a campus-wide day of service? And this year, Into the Streets celebrated its 25th anniversary, Saturday, Oct. 27.

Students who participate in Into the Streets can sign up as part of a club or group, team or individual. One of the opportunities that clubs have is hosting a table at Fall Fest, which is an activities fair organized through the Greater Area Elizabethtown Recreation Services (GEARS) or assisting Elizabethtown residents with raking leaves and winterizing their homes.

“I really enjoyed Into the Streets this year! I am such a kid’s person and I loved that we got to make crafts with the kids,” said sophomore Kaitlyn Edinger, who worked the Fall Fest. “I didn’t know what to expect and how many kids to expect, but I was impressed with the number of families that showed up.”

“Overall I think it was a really good experience and a great time for both adults and children. I am glad I had the opportunity to work with Fall Fest and I highly recommend it for others in the years to come!” Edinger said.

Into the Streets was created as a way to involve more students in community service opportunities while providing them with a learning experience and challenging them to volunteer on a regular basis. It is fully student-led, including coordinators, a marketing team and t-shirt sales leaders. This event is meant to train a large group of students to become leaders, forge partnerships between the local community and the E-town campus and foster a new sense of purpose in participating in college community service projects.

“I really enjoyed participating in Into the Streets with Fall Fest this year. I think it is an amazing opportunity for members of the community to come together, have fun and get into the Halloween spirit,” sophomore Colleen McGovern said. “Overall I had a great experience and look forward to participating again next year!”
