Justin Badgerow, associate professor of music, presented a lecture at the Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association annual conference at Lebanon Valley College in Annville. The June lecture was titled “Incorporating Jazz and Improvisation into the Classical Piano Lesson.”

Cristina Ciocirlan, associate professor of management and department chair, has had a book chapter, titled “Green Human Resource Management,” accepted for publication in Wells, V., Manika, D., and Gregory-Smith, D. (eds), (2018, forthcoming), “Research Handbook on Pro-Environmental Behaviour,” Edward Elgar Publishing: London, UK.

Jon Coren, associate professor of biology, published the journal article “Investigating the utility of the P1 Artificial Chromosome shuttle vector pJCPAC-Mam2 for gene therapy studies” in the International Biology Review, Vol. 1, Issue 1, May 2017. He also published the journal article “Retrofitting the BAC cloning vector pBeloBAC11 by the insertion of a mutant loxP site” in the journal BMC Research Notes.;

Andy Dunlap, associate professor of social work, was published in the new Sage Encyclopedia of Psychology and Gender in July. His entry, “Coming Out Processes for LGBTQ Youth,” provides a concise reference for these complex and evolving processes. He also presented “Infusing experiential education throughout the undergraduate BSW curriculum” at the conference of the European Association of Schools of Social Work in Paris, France.

Susan Mapp, professor of social work, co-presented “Utilizing the Sustainable Development Goals to support social work practice” at the International Federation of Social Workers – Europe conference in Reykjavik, Iceland. She presented a similar paper at the International Consortium on Social Development in Zagreb, Croatia.

Tara Moore, visiting assistant professor of English, presented “Lotteries, Sortings and Choosings: Accepting and Rejecting an Assigned Future in Young Adult Literature” in June at the Children’s Literature Association conference in Tampa, Florida.

Kevin Shorner-Johnson, associate professor of music education in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, presented “Interrogating Violence within Formal and Practical Means-end Rationality: Musicking as Peacebuilding” at the 29th Mayday Colloquium, an international conference of music education scholars. The philosophy paper drew on E-town’s Anabaptist heritage to offer a model of how music education might be more intentional towards peacebuilding.

Michael Swanson, director of theatre and dance and associate professor of theatre, appeared in four roles in “Hairspray” at Ephrata Performing Arts Center in July and August.

Nobuaki Takahashi, associate professor of Japanese and Asian studies, was invited in June, by Kanda University of International Studies in Chiba, Japan, to speak about his career. The speech preceded a meeting with Kanda University’s current president and the offices of admissions, public relations and study abroad for a possible partnership with Elizabethtown College.

 

STUDENTS

Margo Donlin, an engineering and physics major, attended the Landmark Conference Summer Research Symposium on July 27, 2017, and presented a poster about her SCARP project, “Reaction Time of Young Adult and Middle-Aged Men and Women During A Forward Fall.”
