Elizabethtown College’s arrival on U.S. News and World Report’s annual ranking of national liberal arts colleges was anticipated, as was its strong showing in its first year on the National Liberal Arts College List.
“Being 14th among Pennsylvania liberal arts colleges and 115th (tie) among liberal arts colleges nationally puts us in very good company,” said Elizabethtown College President Carl Strikwerda. “We have high-quality faculty, a commitment to a liberal arts education, and a strong core curriculum. The U.S. News’ National Liberal Arts College rankings highlight colleges that emphasize undergraduate education and award at least half of their degrees in the arts and sciences. The rankings are based on a number of criteria and quality measures including graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity and assessment of excellence by peers and high school counselors.
This recognition of the College follows other recent honors and achievements including the President’s Honor Roll for Community and Civic Engagement with distinction, 23rd among U.S. private colleges for graduating low income students by the New York Times, 42nd among colleges nationally that produce Fulbright grant recipients and high profile sustainability initiatives including the largest solar energy array at any Pennsylvania college or university.
