As part of a study tour to New York, German university students will spend several days at Elizabethtown College.

From Sept. 24 through 26, said associate professor of economics, Dr. Sanjay Paul who has been working with one of his colleagues from Konstanz University in Germany, the students will spend some of their study tour at E-town.

“The main purpose of this is project to promote some sort of rigorous interaction for a short period of time between the Elizabethtown students and the German students,” said Paul.

During the three-day tour, the German students will take tours as well as hear from Raymond E. Tierney ’81 E-town graduate and chief operating officer of retirement living services at Masonic Villages.

E-town students volunteered to host the 12 German students in their rooms for the two nights. When they arrive on Thursday, the two groups of students will have time to get to know each other. This is the fourth time E-town will host the group of German students, said the business professor.

“On Friday, we arranged a tour of the Amish lead by Director of the Young Center Dr. Jeffrey Bach; and he gives a wonderful tour,” said Paul. “As part of the tour we go to Amish businesses to see how they operate under the conditions that they have set for themselves such as with their non-use of electricity.”

During the tour, the German students will have lunch at an Amish home “so they get the real Amish treatment.” Later on Friday, they will tour Masonic Homes to see aspects of running a larger business and hear from Tierney.

Before leaving on Saturday, the students will take a guided tour of Gettysburg.
