Donald Kraybill, distinguished college professor and senior Young Center fellow, was consulted for the story, “Violence Among the Amish,” published Sept. 2 on The Atlantic’s website. The article followed up on the Bergholz barbers’ case, a recently overturned 2013 hate-crime conviction against 15 members of an Amish separatist group who cut the beards of other Amish.

 

John B. Craig, Elizabethtown College’s ambassador in residence with the Center for Global Understanding and Peacemaking, wrote, “Airstrikes alone won’t defeat ISIS” for the Sept. 14 Lancaster Newspapers column. Craig also was consulted for the article, “Expect long slog against ISIS, expert says,” published Sept. 9 by Lancaster Newspapers.

 

Richard Blanco, Elizabethtown College’s visiting poet, was the feature of a Sept. 7 “Bookends” article in Lancaster Newspapers. The roundup discussed the Sept. 17 event during which Blanco shared his experiences as a presidential inaugural poet.

 

Dr. Jeffery Long, professor of religion and Asian studies, and Dr. John Teske, professor of psychology, were quoted in the Sept. 20 Lancaster Newspapers article, “Can diverse world views find enough common ground to help save our planet?” The article previewed the conference held at Elizabethtown College  Sept. 27.

 

Douglas H. Shantz, Elizabethtown College visiting author, had his presentation of the Dale Brown Book Award Lecture, “German Pietists as Translators in ‘An Introduction to German Pietism’,” highlighted in Lancaster Newspapers “Bookends: Sept. 21, 2014.”

 

Jean-Paul Benowitz, director of student transition programs, was consulted for the Lancaster Newspapers article, “Capital for a day.” Benowitz commented on the events surrounding the anniversary of the one day Lancaster was the capital of our country, Sept. 27, 1777.
