Dr. Michele Lee Kozimor-King, associate professor of sociology, is the deputy editor of the SAGE and ASA published quarterly journal ‘Teaching Sociology’. Kozimor-King received funding from ASA to provide an internship for an undergraduate editorial assistant, currently Kaitlyn Xanthopoulos ’15.

Kozimor-King took the position of president-elect of Alpha Kappa Delta, the international sociology honor society.

Kozimor-King organized and copresented with Samantha Poremba and alumni Barbara Prince, Michael Shields and Lindsey Cooper at a workshop at the American Sociological Association’s 109th Annual Meeting, Aug. 16 in San Francisco. The workshop was featured as part of the Research Support Forum and as one of the Teaching Sociology Courses Workshops. The title of the workshop was “Community-Based Research: A Promising New Approach to Teaching Undergraduate Methods and Social Statistics to the Net Generation.”

Dr. Kelly Poniatowski, assistant professor of communications, presented the paper, “‘The United States and Russia Once Again’: The Russian diva and the American golden girl in NBC’s 2012 Olympic Gymnastics Coverage” at the annual conference of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications.

Dr. Nobuaki Takahashi, assistant professor of Japanese, had his article, “Stressed Intonation on Recasts: Differential Effects in Comparison with Prompts,” published in the Journal of Language Teaching & Learning, 2014. Also, he presented “Living Learning Communities (Friends of Asia): Report and Challenges” on May 10 at the 2014 Princeton University Japanese Pedagogy Forum

Jean-Paul Benowitz, director of Student Transition Programs and assistant director of Academic Advising, gave a presentation at the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) Symposium in Baltimore, Maryland July 7-9 about first-generation college students. He spoke about the College’s Momentum program, which was recognized by CIC and the Walmart Foundation for its significant contributions to programming for first-generation students.

 

Donna Talarico was interviewed by The Review Review about her creative nonfiction literary magazine. She also was interviewed about Elizabethtown’s Share Your Moment campaign for a chapter in the newly released Engaging Students Through Social Media: Evidence-based Practices for Use in Student Affairs by Reynol Junco (Aug. 2018, Jossey-Bass).
