matt fritz and grant more appear on Good Day PA with instrumentsThe Music Division of Elizabethtown College’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts is collecting used, working-condition woodwind instruments to donate to students in Brazil.

Matthew Fritz, associate professor of music and director of choral activities, and Grant W. Moore II, director of preparatory division and music camp,  appeared on ABC 27’s Good Day PA Monday to promote the drive and give background on the project.

The collection, held in conjunction with E-town’s annual music camp, is an extension of work started during a May 2013 study tour to Salvador, Brazil. Through a partnership with Colegio Anchieta, a private school, 45 Elizabethtown students and faculty and staff members performed and served the community, including giving music lessons. Elizabethtown also donated a trumpet to a Brazilian foundation for disadvantaged students, and this summer’s instrument drive continues that effort.

Central Pennsylvania residents can drop off their donations before any of the concerts during the music camp during the week of July 14; concerts begin at 8 p.m. each weekday in Leffler Chapel and Performance Center, and a final concert at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19.
