Student art will be displayed in the 27th Annual Juried Student Art Show taking place in the Lyet Gallery of the Leffler Chapel and Performance Center April 1 through 25. The show features work from about two dozen Elizabethtown College students. This year out of 113 entries, 78 were selected by the juror to be in the show.

Students were able to submit work in the categories of ceramics, computer art, drawing, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. The show allows the campus and community to view art that was created by students at the College. “Having this show allows students, faculty and the department to receive feedback,” said art professor Milton Friedly. “Without it, students are just working in class, and not many people will have the chance to see their work.”

Each year, a juror is selected to look at all the entries and select what pieces they would like to feature in the show. This year’s juror is Cathy Galligan, a fine artist and educator. She judges the students work in the space she is given and will pick a winner in each of the categories and then a best of show. “Having a juror is beneficial because it validates that someone else thinks my work is good enough to be shown,” said senior communications major and studio art minor, Autumn Steel. “This year five of my pieces were chosen, including a painting, digital art and ceramics pieces.”

Students and faculty and staff members are encouraged to view the art. “Having other students come out and support these student artists really encourages them and shows camaraderie,” said Friedly. “Everyone needs an advocate in terms of helping build confidence.”

Opening reception for the show is 4-6 p.m. on April 1 in the Lyet Gallery.  The free exhibit is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
