image001It’s all about culture at the International Fashion and Talent Show Tuesday, March 25, in the Elizabethtown College KAV.  E-town students combine their own talent and fashion from their home countries to present a show for the enjoyment of their fellow students and faculty and staff members.

Kristi Syrdahl, director of International Student Services and advisor of the No Boundaries Club at Elizabethtown College, is excited to “see all the talent and fashion that Elizabethtown students have to show.” The No Boundaries Club, the new name for the International Club, is cosponsor of the event, along with the Office of International Student Services.

I know there are a lot of folks who have great skills and sometimes there is no platform for it,”

The International Fashion Show has been presented for the past few years but, this year, the No Boundaries Club added talent to the show. “I know there are a lot of folks who have great skills and sometimes there is no platform for it,” said Syrdahl.

David Nagel ’15, a member of No Boundaries, said he is excited to “see the various talents and apparel of different cultures” at the Fashion and Talent Show, which features eight students. Some of the demonstrations of talent include instruments, such as pianos and guitars, while others are singing and performances. The fashion component highlights ceremonial, historical and casual outfits–a student wearing everyday Indian attire and students in formal Japanese and Vietnamese wear. Nagel will wear Ethiopian clothing, including a scarf, hat and gown and will participate in an Ethiopian dance. “I am excited to share a widely unfamiliar culture such as the culture of Ethiopia,” he said.

Syrdahl’s favorite part about working on the show is working with the No Boundaries Club cabinet members and allowing the group to take a leadership role. “It’s nice working with students who are so enthusiastic,” said Syrdahl. Students in No Boundaries have been working closely with her planning this event. Members created a No Boundaries Club logo and came up with the idea to add the talent component to this year’s show.
