Dr. Jeffery Long, Religion and Asian Studies, has had articles published in the following edited volumes this semester: “Models of God and Alternative Ultimate Realities,” edited by Jeanine Diller and published by Springer; “Contemporary Hinduism,” edited by P. Pratap Kumar and published by Acumen; “Mysticism and the Spiritual Quest: A Crosscultural Anthology,” edited by Phyllis Zagano and published by Paulist Press; and “Understanding Interreligious Relations,” edited by Douglas Pratt and published by Oxford University Press.

Also, Long  presented on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda at Loyola Marymount University, the University of Southern California, the University of Massachusetts, the Vedanta Society of Providence, Rhode Island, and the Hindu Temple Society of Allentown, Pennsylvania. He also presented at this year’s American Academy of Religion conference, held in Baltimore, Maryland, giving presentations on Hindu process theology, religious pluralism, Hindu Goddesses, and Swami Vivekananda.

 

Milt Friedly, Fine and Performing Arts, is presenting a solo exhibition of his art at the Clyde Stacks Visual Arts Center Gallery, the Milton Hershey School. The title of the show is, “Cultural Remnants & Objects of Interest.” Friedly and former student Caitlin Vajdic installed 39 works of various media in the gallery. The opening reception is Friday, Jan. 17, from 3 to 7 p.m. The show continues through March 28.

 

Dr. W. Wesley McDonald, Political Science, appeared on WITF’s Radio Smart Talk on Dec. 20. He discussed the political implications of the Congressional bipartisan budget deal.

 

Dr. Michael Roy, Psychology, and former students Laura Getz and Stephen Marks, had the article “The influence of stress, optimism, and music training on music uses and preferences” published in the January issue of the journal Psychology of Music. Roy, in collaboration with Clayton Hilmert and Ai Ni Teoh of North Dakota State, also had the article “Effort and negative affect interact to predict cardiovascular responses to stress” published in the January issue of Psychology and Health.
