EWT-eventTo begin the school year with a health conscious approach, the Employee Wellness Team (EWT) held an event to spread awareness to administrators and faculty and staff members about the College’s wellness program. This is the first formal kick-off EWT has held, and  member Brenda Spiker, Human Resources, was pleased with its success.

“…hopefully this event sparked some interest in upcoming programs and events the Team has planned for the remainder of the academic year,” said Spiker.

Our goal is to increase the awareness of wellness initiatives on campus”

The kick-off was held Sept. 16 in the KAV with activities promoting health awareness including biometric screenings, completion of the Personal Health Profile on the Capital BlueCross website and a healthy lunch. Participants were given a pedometer—a device that tracks how far you walk, run, or bike and then stores that information in a fitness log—and were entered into a drawing for an oil mister. Also, anyone who completed the Personal Health Profile received his or her choice of a $10 College Store coupon or $10 in Jaybucks.

“Our goal is to increase the awareness of wellness initiatives on campus and to help employees gain a better understanding of their health and what they can do to improve health issues they might have,” said Spiker.

Upcoming EWT events include an eight-week EMPOWER weight management program which begins Oct. 7 and a fall hike on Oct. 27.
