Tech Tip: Starting YouTube Videos at a Specific Point

When showing a YouTube video in class, it is often helpful to have the video start playing from a specific point as soon as it loads. You can change this by adding the time onto the end of the URL. Type #t=the number of minutes you want to start at, followed by an ‘m’; followed by the number of seconds (two digits) you want to start at, followed by an ‘s’. Thus, if you wish to start the video at 3:05, you would type “t=3m05s” at the end of the video’s URL. It should be typed without any spaces after the URL.

If the original video URL appears as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-24M3tdxe8, the new video URL starting at 3:05 would appear asĀ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-24M3tdxe8#t=3m05s.
