Goodbye Blackboard

As of June 24, 2015, the college will no longer be using Blackboard as an LMS. Don’t worry! ITS will archiving all of your Blackboard courses and can help import them into Canvas. As Etown moves to Canvas, there are many things you can do to ease the transition and help prepare for the new LMS implementation.

Training

Training sessions on how to use Canvas are being offered right now and provide not only information but also insight as to how courses are designed. Visit here for a list of ITS’ upcoming sessions and look for the Canvas Training with Linda Macaulay, ITS Instructional Technologist.

Explore the Guides

Canvas offers many Quick Start guides for both Canvas in general and Canvas for instructors. Visiting the guides for Getting Started and more can be very helpful by itself or as supplementation for the training sessions provided by ITS. Click here to visit guides.instructure.com.

You do not need to have a Canvas account or log in to view the guides.

Talk to Fellow Instructors

Several instructors were able to utilize a pilot version of Canvas during the testing stages and are already familiar with the LMS. Speaking with fellow instructors on how they’ve used Canvas and any tips they may have can be very useful. Contact ITS for a list of pilot instructors if you’re not sure who has been piloting the program.
